Devan Goldstein is writer #4 to participate in the Ultimate Writing Desk Search. If you would like to participate and share your writing space (it’s okay, don’t be shy) find instructions here.

Here’s how Devan describes his current and actual writing desks:

“This is not my desk. My desk is a table with room on top for wires and discrete piles, allowing me the illusion of organization. This desk makes me feel claustrophobic, since it has so little surface space, and since I can’t stretch my legs or cross them or spread them apart in the tight space underneath. My desk is sleek and blonde and lightens up a room. This desk looks and smells like stale cigars.

This is a desk I am using because my desk is 1,800 miles away, because my wife is 1,800 miles away. We moved to a higher place and I could not sleep in the thin air, so I moved back. For now, we live apart, and for now, my things live with her. If my computer could speak, it might describe to you the room I have framed out of the photograph. It might say, There is an area rug, there is a beach chair, there are some socks and some plastic bags and that is all. The room is empty. And for now, it is.”
